Sir Peter Boshier was born and raised in Gisborne and has had a distinguished career in New Zealand’s legal and public sectors. Appointed as a Judge in 1988, he served as Principal Family Court Judge from 2004 to 2012. Following this role, he was appointed a Law Commissioner before being appointed by Parliament as New Zealand’s Chief Ombudsman in 2015. Since retiring from the position in 2025, Sir Peter has continued to contribute his expertise through a range of patronage, governance, and advisory roles.
